It is the Scenic Route! 6/20/10

Palmer, AKCivilization - or is it?

This morning we slowly got ready after washing the laundry. Traveling does not decrease the amount of laundry. It is such a drag! Then we began the “scenic route”. I must admit, it is very scenic! We saw four glaciers coming out of the Chugach Mountains. The biggest was Matanuska Glacier. They are incredible. The white is brighter than sunlight and pictures really do not show the glaciers anywhere near as beautiful as they are. I hope we see more.

We arrived in Palmer, Alaska which has 5,559 people residing here. This is the largest town we have seen since we left Whitehorse, Yukon a week ago. And unlike Whitehorse, it not only has a stoplight, but a McDonalds and Fred Meyer. I am afraid that we are headed back to civilization. I am not ready! We have to stay in Palmer because our mail is here and the post office doesn’t open until tomorrow. So Palmer it is.
